BAMA is all about having fun with other Miata
enthusiasts. In fact, if you take your fun seriously like we do, you
will absolutely
enjoy membership in BAMA! BAMA hosts several events each year,
including scenic group drives along Bay Area backroads and social
gatherings about the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Our drives go
through the hills or up the coastal roads and normally take about
three or four hours on a Saturday or Sunday morning and we also try to
fit in at least one spectacular moonlight drive during the
year. Rest breaks and photo opportunities are provided every hour or so
and the drives usually begins or ends with our enjoying a
meal together at a friendly and unique local hangout. Highlights of
every driving event include great scenery and a line of colorful
Miatas stretching out along the route.Driving events meet thirty minutes prior to the departure time and we encourage everyone to arrive with a full tank of gas, ready to go. Just before the start, the group leader holds a short drivers' meeting to discuss safety and other issues. Ah yes... safety; in addition to taking our fun seriously, we also take safety seriously. Even with the best of preparations, unforeseen incidents can occur. Therefore, before heading out, every driver and passenger joining in the run will be asked to sign a Waiver and Release of Liability. It's important that you read and understand the full release.
Most driving events start and stop near freeway exits, but the only way to find the exact starting location is by emailing the event organizer (always listed with the event info). RSVPs are almost always required for BAMA events. These aren't "secret" drives, but to stay organized we need to know who's going to be there. You don't have to be a BAMA member to join us on one of our group drives, but we certainly encourage it--membership is only $25 per year, and well worth it. Members of other Miata clubs are always welcome on BAMA events, too.
Annual Events
BAMA Tech Talk
One of several events hosted by Laura Munoz's PR Motorsports in Hayward, CA, BAMA's January tech talk features a Q&A session, plus a guest speaker. Laura provides not only her spacious facilities for the occasion, but also provides sandwiches and drinks for all. A nominal entry fee is charged, but BAMA membership isn't required. This also one of our major membership meetings.
Shine 'n Swap
Held during the spring or summer at PR Motorsports, BAMA's annual Shine n' Swap is a chance to show off your Miata and maybe pick up a bargain or two on some aftermarket Miata gear. PRM's Laura Munoz usually tries to have on hand a few specialists in the art of automotive detailing, including paintless dent repair and windshield repair. No entry fee, and BAMA membership is not required.
Miata Roundup
Also held during the summer, BAMA's annual Miata Roundup is a combination car show, raffle, and barbeque. Most of the morning is spent judging the cars--participants get to be judges, too--and after lunch prizes is awarded. A great chance to see all kinds of Miatas and all kinds of Miata modifications.
That's just a brief summary of what we do in BAMA. Check out the events page on this website for a look at some of the events BAMA has held over the past few years. Then come out and join us for a little Miata fun of your own.
